Full Day Trip to Vojvodina Region

City center, Novi Sad
- City Center , Novi Sad

(Novi Sad & Petrovaradin Fortress, Sremski Karlovci, Krusedol Monastery on Fruska Gora mountain)

Vojvodina is an autonomous region within Serbia, situated mainly north of the capital, on the left bank of the Danube river. Due to its complicated historical past, Vojvodina is today a colorful mosaic of ethnic and religious groups, each of them adding their unique flavor to the culture, architecture, traditions and  cuisine of the area. The scenery is also very different from Serbia’s hilly central part or mountainous southern areas.

This day trip is perfect to explore the highlights of the region. The capital of the province, Novi Sad, is mostly a baroque town with a Central European atmosphere. The old town center is lined up with beautiful 200 year old houses, out-doors cafes, shops and ice-cream parlors, as well as beautiful places of worship – the ornate Serbian Orthodox church, the tall Catholic Cathedral or the Jewish synagogue (no longer in actual use). Across the river Danube, high above the water towers Petrovaradin fortress, a Vauban type fortification that has been dubbed “The Gibraltar” on the Danube – site of many military confrontation in the past, now an excellent view point of the downtown area and the river, as well as the location of one of Serbia’s most popular music festivals, EXIT. You shall also visit the Baroque town of Sremski Karlovci, just outside Novi Sad. Here you also have the opportunity to taste some of the local wines. Last, but not least, the visit to one of the monasteries on the Fruska Gora mountain is planned - the most popular is Krusedol monastery.

The church of St. George

One of the most popular half day trips from Belgrade, this tour takes you to the heart of Serbia, Shumadija Region, to visit locations related to Serbia’s modern history and its fight against the Ottoman oppression. The tour will take you to his memorial house, the “Konak” in downtown Topola, where documents and artifacts that belonged to him and his companions can be seen. "Royal Destiny - Serbia and Karadjordjevic Dynasty " Tour

After centuries of oppression under the Ottoman regime, it was George Petrovic, better known as Karadjordje (“Black George”) who lead the First Serbian Uprising in 1804 and later founded the first Serbian royal dynasty. The Karadjordje, with brief interruptions and exceptions, led the country wisely and are fondly remembered in history.
The tour will allow you to visit the Royal compound and the Beli Dvor – only open to the public on week-ends. This is still the official residence of the royal family. Afterwards, you shall travel into the Serbian countryside for a hearty lunch. Then you stop shortly in a place called Radovanje, where Karadjordje’s assassin raised a monument (“Pokajnica”) as a sign of his remorse for the killing of the revolutionary leader. And we saved the best for last - the place where it all started, and where it all also ends: Topola. Here, visit the memorial house of Karadjordje and then continue to Oplenac Hill to see the majestic St George church. The interior of the church is covered in mosaics, over 6 million stones making up copies of famous medieval Serbian orthodox frescoes. In the crypt lie the remains of the members of the Karadjordjevic dynasty – as the church also serves as their burial vault. Return to the Serbian capital in the late afternoon.

Tour duration: 8-9 hours
Difficulty: easy
The tour runs on SAT and SUN only – but registration of passport with the tourist office the day prior to the tour is obligatory for the Royal compound visit
